Deep Dive into The Hoss Lady October Clothes Challenge: Week One
This Month we are focusing on downsizing our wardrobes in order to make room for the cooler weather clothes!!! Each Day you will have ONE type of clothing to sort through. And each item you pull out, I want you to ask yourself these three questions:
Have I worn this in the past six months? (twelve months for seasonal clothing like heavy sweaters or holiday-themed items)
Does it fit? Like, really fit. When I wear this, I feel confident and comfortable.
Am I holding onto this for sentimental reasons? If so, is having this (insert whatever kind of thing it is) more important than my present state of mind?
In other words... what is more important... allowing your past self's clutter to consume your present self's mental well-being? Yeah, you might have a moment's sting of pain if you let something go you kept because it was what you wore on the first date with your husband 20 years ago. But I guarantee you, that date will be remembered with or without that dress. Don't let the THOUGHT of an item overpower the items you have that you actually USE.
Week One: October 1-7 Day 1 - go ahead and grab some garbage bags or a big box and place it in the room with your clothes. Day 2 - empty your sock drawer. Match the ones you wear most often. Then really be honest with yourself... do I really need 17 pairs of Harry Potter socks? Day 3 - Undies... y'all my mother would wear underwear from before I was born... she never threw away her underwear. But let me tell you... there is nothing like having NICE underwear on. Keep some "ew" drawers for Shark Week, but don't hold onto a crap ton of panties you'll never wear. Day 4 - BRAS... basically read Day 3 again. Day 5 - Tank Tops - you have your favorite ones... why are you holding onto 37 other tank tops that you never wear? Keep your favorites - toss out the others. Day 6 - Bathing Suits - Did you wear it this summer? If not... did you want to but chickened out? Keep it and WEAR THE DAMN THING next summer. But if you didn't wear it because it was too small or out of style or a hand-me-down from your mother and you don't want to hurt her feelings... toss it. Day 7 - Short Sleeve T-shirts - yeah... this one is the hardest for people to commit to. Why T-shirts tend to be the most sacred of all things, I don't know. Keep as many as you want... but if you have too many that you can't fit them in a drawer or you're not willing to hang them up every time you wear them... either bag some of the sentimental ones and store away... or throw out any of the ones you just never wear. Still not sure of what to get rid of? Still not willing or comfortable with these things?
